I don't think there's a Man United player capable of shadowing Messi nearly as effectively as Bosingwa did. Most likely they will resort to the typical tactic of fouling him whenever he gets the ball. But Barca's defense is in serious trouble too, for a different reason (injuries/suspensions and generally not being that good). Based on this you'd think United would have the edge, but I'm going out there and saying:

Man Utd score first.
Barca score the next 3.
The end.

John, I'm not sure where you got this notion that United plays defensive football. Both these teams are the most attacking and fluid in the world (just look at that third goal against the Arse), and there is no chance in hell that either of them will resort to just fouling each other.

If Messi is on the right, Evra will be more than capable of shutting him down.

And United conceding three goals in one game? I don't think so.

Re: Who will win?

I didn't say United is a defensive-minded team. I said they'd foul Messi nonstop, sure; even Real Madrid did that in the first Classico, you don't need to be a defensive-minded team in general to do it. I doubt Evra will be effective the whole game vs. Messi, because Messi usually doesn't stay on the right wing the whole game, for one. Hiddink had Bosingwa mark Messi all game, wherever he drifted. I think that's the type of gameplan you need to have against him, and I'm guessing (I stress guessing) Evra isn't up to that sort of assignment as much as Bosingwa was.

So I think United will go into the game above all looking to play as physically as possible, and they'll gameplan to block the passing lanes so Barca can't 1-2-thru-ball their back line to death like they did vs Bayern. Chelsea did this too, and very effectively at that. But this time I think Messi will find room to work in the midfield more frequently than he did vs Chelsea (which was about 3.1502 seconds total). I'm not saying United won't attack, but when they don't have possession, I'm predicting this is going to be their plan.

I am actually nervous about this game, especially the closer it gets and the more bad news we get about Barca injuries. But I don't think Henry is the biggest concern. Iniesta is. And Man Utd have no injuries that I'm aware of. The only player out is Fletcher (feel free to correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think so).

Did anyone see United today? They were supposed to play in the CL final today but they didn't show up.

It's hard to pinpoint one or two key reasons that they lost. No single Barca player dominated. Xavi was probably the right choice for man of the match, but a lot of players had great games. Messi did clearly have much more room to work in this game than either leg vs. Chelsea, but you can't call that the key to the win. Sir Alex had it right: since Eto'o's goal, Man Utd were just bad.

Ronaldo actually played pretty well. At least he was the only one who looked like bringing United back at any point. Still, Messi did enough to sure up player of the year.

Didn't Porto knock them out? I remember you telling me how the Hulk and Porto were going to win. I didn't exactly see Porto in the final...

I echo all of these sentiments. The better team won, it was a team effort, and Ronaldo did play well.

You're right, United knocked out Porto and thus Porto was not at the final.

My point was that United failed to show up to the final. I was expecting United to win, my preditcion was 3-1. However, they failed to show up. It was a very poor effort on their part. I really don't see how Porto has anything to do with that.

Ronaldo was probably the only Man U player that actually did show up. Anderson was shocking for the most part, Carrick did nothing as did Giggs. They'd probably have been better off with 10 players then having Berbatov on the pitch. Messi, Xavi, Iniesta and Pique all had brilliant games. Man U are lucky to have only lost 2 - 0.
