Kiss the Cup (The FIFA World Cup) in Essex

Post by Willemvdh on Sun Mar 22, 2009 11:22 am

Hi everyone,

I work for an advertising agency and I'm currently working on a project for Sony Ericsson.

Here is what's happening:

Sony Ericsson will have the actual FIFA World Cup for a few hours in a couple of weeks, and they are organising a special VIP event for that and in preparation, they are organising a little game/event in the Lakeside Shopping Centre in Essex next Saturday afternoon.

The idea is for all the contestants to Kiss the Cup the longest time possible (With other people at the same time) to win a ticket for the VIP evening. The entries were supposed to close today, but I expect it will stay open given this is all done in a short time frame. You can either register to try win tickets, or just show up for a while and watch the people kissing the cup! So if you live around Essex, or know people who do, tell them about it!

As a side note, if ever you are a Twitter user watch this space because there is going to be a special little something added on for you.

Here is all the info:

Competition entry (On Carphone Warehouse site): http://www.carphonewarehouse.com/c510

To finish, I'd love to know what you think of the idea in general!

Do you think the 'Kiss the Cup' concept is a good idea? Would you do it?
Should they organise it as a bigger event so more people can make it..?

Although it is an interesting idea...I don't believe that everyday people like you and me should even be able to touch the cup. Only the footballers that win the actual World Cup should be able to touch it.

All trophies in all sports are sacred. They should not be touched unless they are won/earned. They have had this debate going on here in the U.S for all of the trophies over here...and the majority of people say that they don't deserve to touch the trophy.

Hi there,

A couple more points to clarify, even though it's happening tomorrow so I'm not sure it will that it will change anything for people reading.

Tay Fish: To your point, nobody will actually be touching the FIFA World Cup.
The game with people kissing the cup - that's not the FIFA world cup.

And I also learned that every contestant who will be kissing the cup tomorrow automatically wins a new Sony Ericsson mobile phone and a Sony sound entertainment system (Last minute, but there are still a few spaces available if ever you are interested).

The winners of the Kiss The Cup game tomorrow, also earn a ticket for the special VIP event where the real FIFA world cup will exhibited (Encased in glass, I believe).
