CL Draw Empty CL Draw

Post by j6pini on Fri Mar 20, 2009 10:40 am

Villareal-Arsenal
Chelsea-Liverpool
Barca-Bayern
Man United-Porto

How do people feel about this draw? For me it is disappointing because I want to see United face Barca, but that cant happen until the final, which decreases the chance that they do face eachother. And overall I just think it's a weak draw. I didn't think I'd be saying this pre-Friday but..we'll see, hopefully there will be an upset or 2.

I like how all these people on the internet are saying that Porto are a weak team. I can almost gurantee that the vast majority have not seen Porto play all year and can't name 5 players on the team without looking at the roster.

I'm fine with Manchester having 75% possession, we'll just do what we do best, counter attack and score.

Anyone else think that Uefa are fixing it?
I see a repeat of the 2006 final coming, think Arsenal will take United over two legs

Well I do think that UEFA's ideal matchup is Barca vs. Man United, which is in line. But Idk, I guess I don't know how the politics works there; a lot of people are suggesting UEFA "warmed the balls," but how could they have? I mean literally, is it realistically possible? I was under the impression that they did it in front of a whole room of team reps and press?

Does seem unlikely and like a lot of effort but Liverpool drawn Chelsea 4 of the last 5 years? how improbable is that

Good news for United, Porto has no right back for tomorrow. The starter is hurt, the back up just got hurt and its very doubtful he will play, and the third and fourth options have both been ruled out. I have no idea who's going to play. My guess would be Steponov, who is a center back who is a regular on the Serbian national team but rarely plays at Porto.

This was the first Porto game I've seen this season, and they looked very very good. United looked off too. And what an outstanding game. It was well worth skipping class.

United are looking really really shakey of late, they keep saying how the title is all wrapepd up, but besides Villa, it's been a fair few games, some against poor opposition they have lost or drawn, will they make it past Porto, before the match i would have said without a doubt, now i'm not sure, but yeh well played Porto!

If Gerrard is at least 90% fit for the return leg, they'll go thru. THATS right, mark my words.

No chance, i think Rafa will have already given up hope of winning the tie and now will just focus on the league - which is a mistake since its still ridiculously unlikely that we'll win it.

Ah well, looks like another trophy-less season - or maybe i'm just being too pessimistic? I think not.

You should take a leave from the Man U fans book. They are always over-confident and it generally works!!

Actually I'm feeling pretty optimistic about both the league and the CL, for Liverpool that is. At least I think both will go down to the absolute wire. The CL Stamford Bridge leg will see an 85th minute Gerrard goal to win it 3-0. Just a feeling.

ps no Terry, so it's not completely out of the question, even if it's obviously optimistic.

you liverpool fans are crazy...there is no way that chelsea would lose 3-0 at stamford bridge...they are a force at home. no chance. chelsea is through comfortably.

as far as united goes...let's not discuss them. i am quite nervous for the 2nd leg, although they have a much more realistic chance of getting through than liverpool.

as for the other 2 quarterfinals...barca is obviously through...and arsenal will take the 2nd leg at home to move on as well.

Let's just say that with even odds, I would NOT take Liverpool. But if they're 1-3 or possibly 1-2 then I'd bet on them.

United will get through. Even though i'd love it if they didn't. Arsenal will win against Utd though, Utd will have to be focusing on the League too much by then, Arsenal are in a comfortable 4th therefore can put full priority on the CL. Barcelona will beat Chelsea over two legs.
