If you could change one rule in football what would it be?
and why?
Mine personally would be shielding the ball out for a goal kick should be blown up for obstruction, it would be anywhere else on the field.
If big lumbering centre halfs couldnt just use there muscle to shield a ball out, but have to actually use some technique to play it out, we may just see a big change in the game

Awesome topic. And I completely agree with your point about obstruction.
I'm not sure of any rules I'd change, but I do know one major change I'd make to refereeing. I want to see refs start calling fouls even when the player does not go to ground. Because they stopped doing this, players needed to start diving in order to get calls. Once players realize they can stay on their feet and still get the call then they'll stop diving. Players need to be rewarded for staying on their feet.

Very good point and very nice article.
I agree completley, It has got to the stage now where players are being praised for staying on there feet, it seems to be if they can stay up its not a foul but get brushed ever so slightly and you have to jump around like a fish to win a free kick

A penalty shootout alternative would be nice.

NO
worst idea. dont even start that. your sounding like that shitty espn sports centre guy. uhh, as much as they suck, its the only way to end a match, not knocking a guy off the pitch every 5 minutes (thats what that espn guy said... i know right)

Thats worse.
I suppose a penalty shootout only needs changing when you've lost a few.

I would just keep playing the game until it ends if it takes 5 hours so be it.

Agree with the points about diving.
I think they should change the offside rule. It's far too compliated, at Euro 2008 in a holland game an injured player was deemed as playing an opponent onside even though he wasn't on the pitch!
